Excellant heart warming movie by Tim Burton about a dying father (well played by Albert Finney and Ewan McGregor in his younger days) and his tall tales of his adventures and his estranged son (Billy Crudup). Also stars Jessica Lange, Helena Bonham Carter, Steve Buscemi and Danny DeVito. As always with Tim Burton's films, it is very visual.

Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (***1/2)

Date: Mon Jan 17, 2005

Not as good as the first movie, Bridget (excellently played by Renee Zellweger) is still smitten by Mark Darcy (still gorgeous Colin Firth) and the return of playboy Daniel Clever (Hugh Grant). However, this time around, there is this "other woman", a beautiful and leggy assistant to Darcy whom she suspects Darcy is fooling around with. Still as clumpsy as ever and on the heavy side, Renee brings
the character based on Helen Fielding's books with relish delight but the supporting roles of the parents (excellent Richard Broadbent and Gemma Jones) disappointingly reduced in this follow up. Delightful!

"Buai Laju-Laju" (***1/2)

Another good movie from U-Wei as was shown previously in "Jogho" and "Kaki Bakar". Loosely based on "The Postman Always Ring Twice", the story of betrayal and greed has a drifter, Amran (wonderfully played by Eman Manan with the right sex appeal) coming into the lives of Ibrahim (Khalid Salleh who is under utilised in this film), a rich older man who is married to the sultry young and beautiful Zaiton (Betty Banafe). Zaiton then seduces Amran into killing Ibrahim to share the riches only to be haunted by pictures taken of them together. Will there be a happy ending? But then, this is not the typical Malay movie - it does not have Awie nor Erra Fazira, thank God.

Average movie directed by Afdlin Shauki about being fat
and being bullied. Afdlin Shauki plays Nordin, the guy being bullied by Roy (Hans Isaac) both physically and mentally since young, Supporting from Nasha Aziz playing an understanding psychiatrist after a film star, Patrick Teoh as the boss, Ako Mustafa as his nerdy housemate and the only friend our protaganist hero has and Soraya Dean just playing beautiful as the boss's assistant.
