The 2023 Graduate Supervisor Work Conference and New Supervisor Training of the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) took place at the Cultural and Exhibition Center of BIT's Liangxiang Campus on Dec 14.

Sub-sessions were set up on BIT's Zhongguancun Campus and Zhuhai Campus, as well as at the Frontier Technology Research Institute, Yangtze River Delta Research Institute, Chongqing Innovation Center, and Shenzhen MSU-BIT University.

Representatives from the Yanhe Collegiate League of Talent Cultivation, Liangxiang University Town College Alliance, Changchun University of Science and Technology, Hebei University of Technology, Hebei Medical University, Tianjin University of Technology, Taiyuan University of Technology, and 16 other graduate schools, along with supervisor representatives, participated in the meeting.

Additionally, all graduate supervisors from BIT attended the conference. The meeting was chaired by Academician Jiang Lan, vice president of BIT.

Academician Zhang Jun delivers a lecture.

Under the theme of "promoting the spirit of educators and striving to be the grand masters of the era," Academician Zhang Jun, Party secretary of BIT, delivered a lecture focusing on three aspects: "Developing the country through science and education, remaining dedicated to strengthening the nation," "standing at the forefront of the tide, continuing the spirit of BIT," and "prioritizing teaching, cultivating and nurturing talents."

Zhang stressed that graduate supervisors should prioritize teaching and nurturing talents, strive to be qualified guiders, adhere to teacher ethics and conduct, and align with the development of the university.

Tang Jiwei, first-level inspector of the Ministry of Education (MOE)'s Department of Degree Management and Postgraduate Education, gave a special report on "Accelerating the construction of a high-quality graduate education system to lead the construction of an educationally powerful nation," introducing the historical achievements and new problems and challenges facing graduate education.

Wei Huan, director of the MOE Office of National Education Inspection, and Li Hengjin, director of the Paper Quality Monitoring Bureau of the MOE Department of Degree Management and Postgraduate Education, both gave guidance reports.

Academician Hu Haiyan, director of the Academic Committee of BIT, gave a lecture on "Talking about science and technology ethics education."

Hu stated that science and technology ethics education is a fundamental part of science and technology ethics governance. Only by integrating science and technology ethics into China's education system can it meet the requirements of the new era for "cultivating virtue and nurturing the people.

In the afternoon, Professor Yu Miaojie, president of Liaoning University, and Academician Wang Haifu, Professor Tao Ran, and Professor Zhou Jiadong of BIT exchanged experiences.

Researcher Han Buxin of the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave special guidance. Professor Deng Fang, executive vice dean of the Graduate School of BIT, gave a special report.
